Another way we aim to create an inclusive environment in the workplace is by providing support and guidance in relation to gender transition. Our goal is to continually foster an inclusive workplace where everyone can bring their whole self to work.

Rachel Mead is a Senior Culture and People Partner, who has been with Woolworths Group for 30 years.

“I work at Woolworths because I love the challenge and variety of working in a fast paced retail environment. In my experience our culture is authentic and inclusive. It’s a great place to work! I have been ‘out’ at work for over 20 years. For the vast majority of that 20 years and certainly over the last 15 years I have found identifying as LGBTI incredibly easy. My colleagues have been open, accepting and genuinely interested in me as a person. I feel very comfortable to just be me at work and I never feel that I need to present myself differently. Diverse teams achieve better outcomes, but diverse teams only thrive in a culture of inclusion where individual difference is respected, encouraged and celebrated. We all perform better when we can be our true selves at work!”

Jefferson Damayo works for Woolworths Group in the Environment & Sustainability Department, he was previously a Search Engine Optimiser (SEO) within the Group for Dan Murphy’s. He has been a part of the Woolworths Group family for approximately five years.

“I chose Woolworths, purely out of luck. Dan Murphy’s had reached out to me to start in a Christmas casual position and the position as Customer Service agent sounded interesting. My experience in identifying as LGBTI at Woolworths has been exceptional! Nothing like I have experienced before at my previous workplaces. All I can say is that I have never worked in a place with such a large LGBTI community. The culture & environment is very friendly and accepting of who I am. It is one of the main reasons I have stayed in Woolworths. I believe inclusion in general of all minority groups is important, and Woolworths is leading the way! I have come across many walks of life at the Dan Murphy’s contact centre, and I have noticed how many who feel vulnerable outside of the work environment, including myself, feel safe and comfortable at Woolworths”.
