The Department of Premier and Cabinet (DPC) work for the people of Victoria by helping the government achieve its strategic objectives. We lead the Victorian Public Service by providing support throughout the Victorian Government. We pursue excellence in whole-of-government service delivery and reform outcomes.

The Department of Premier and Cabinet leads the Victorian Pubic Service by:

  • Setting clear expectations
  • Driving the Government’s objectives
  • Pursuing excellence in whole-of-government outcomes in service delivery and reform.

The Department of Premier and Cabinet is leading the way in social policy reform for LGBTI communities. The Equality Branch that sits within DPC provides policy advice to the Minister for Equality and supports the Commissioner for Gender and Sexuality.

The Equality Branch plays an important coordination role to ensure LGBTI inclusion is embedded in other departments’ programs and services.

Our workplace is just as diverse as the opportunities we offer. Lawyers, urban planners, scientists and policy makers are just a few of the occupations available.

We pride ourselves on our diverse culture. We embed respect and inclusion within our everyday work. DPC’s vision is to be a recognised and respected leader in whole-of-government policy and performance. This is more than just a job. It’s a chance to make a difference in the Victorian community and help shape Victoria’s future.

We are headquartered in Melbourne CBD but have offices and branches around the state.

A public sector workforce that reflects the communities it serves can provide better insight into policy development and improve service delivery outcomes for the community.

DPC’s LGBTI Network holds regular social events and quarterly strategic planning meetings. We have a workplace inclusion plan that outlines the core responsibilities of DPC to achieve a safer work environment. The Network has also co-ordinated participation at Midsumma and ChillOut as well as organizing events for International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia.

DPC has also created an Inclusive Language Guide which provides the Victorian Public Sector with guidance on appropriate language to use regarding LGBTI issues and communities.

Nicholas Coxon Senior Policy Officer, National Disability Insurance Scheme

I’m proud to be working for a government that boasts Australia’s first Gender and Sexuality Commissioner Rowena Allen and Minister for Equality Martin Foley. I have experienced many roles at DPC but it is through the creation of the Equality portfolio and establishment of the DPC LGBTI Network that I genuinely feel comfortable to be who I am at work. DPC’s inclusive work environment has ensured that there is no need to censor aspects of oneself. I couldn’t think of working at a better place that is actively working towards achieving equality in Victoria and beyond.
