A public sector workforce that reflects the communities it serves can provide better insight into policy development and improve service delivery outcomes for the community.

DPC’s LGBTI Network holds regular social events and quarterly strategic planning meetings. We have a workplace inclusion plan that outlines the core responsibilities of DPC to achieve a safer work environment. The Network has also co-ordinated participation at Midsumma and ChillOut as well as organizing events for International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia.

DPC has also created an Inclusive Language Guide which provides the Victorian Public Sector with guidance on appropriate language to use regarding LGBTI issues and communities.

Nicholas Coxon Senior Policy Officer, National Disability Insurance Scheme

I’m proud to be working for a government that boasts Australia’s first Gender and Sexuality Commissioner Rowena Allen and Minister for Equality Martin Foley. I have experienced many roles at DPC but it is through the creation of the Equality portfolio and establishment of the DPC LGBTI Network that I genuinely feel comfortable to be who I am at work. DPC’s inclusive work environment has ensured that there is no need to censor aspects of oneself. I couldn’t think of working at a better place that is actively working towards achieving equality in Victoria and beyond.
