WHO ARE WE

At EnergyAustralia we put our customers at the heart of everything we do, meeting the gas and electricity needs of 1.7 million customers across New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia, Queensland and the ACT.

MORE ABOUT US

Our purpose is to lead and accelerate the clean energy transformation for all and we have a strong commitment to lead in next-generation energy products. We are helping our customers to manage their carbon footprint, giving them the opportunity to offset 100% of the carbon emissions from the electricity they use at home, at no cost to them.

To supply electricity and support our customers, EnergyAustralia has a 5000MW portfolio of coal, gas, and wind assets and employs around 2500 Australians. We have a strong focus on ensuring that all decisions we make align with our values, and must be socially and environmentally acceptable. EnergyAustralia listens to its stakeholders, and acts sustainably by minimising our impact on the environment, working safely and providing economic opportunities for local businesses and the local community.

What sets EnergyAustralia apart?

Supporting Customers:

  • We prioritise existing customers through products & smart technology, putting them in control of their energy consumption
  • We have installed more than 2,500 solar photovoltaic systems on household roofs in New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland, South Australia and the Australian Capital Territory
  • With Go Neutral, we have invited all our existing customers to offset the carbon emissions from their electricity use at no additional cost to them
  • We were the first energy company to join the Financial Inclusion Action Plan program
  • We were the first major energy company to stop door-to-door sales
  • We have committed $10 million to expanding financial and other support for vulnerable customers at a time of rising electricity and gas prices

Strengthening Community Connections:

  • EnergyAustralia is proud to be part of the communities in which we operate and recognises the importance of engaging locally to help build vibrant places to live and work
  • We support initiatives which aim to deliver sustainable community benefits through our community grants program
  • Our people are encouraged to volunteer; around 175 volunteered in 2016 putting almost 900 hours of time back into supporting the community
  • Through our Reconciliation Action Plan we are building genuine and long term connections with Traditional Owners of the country in which we operate and the broader Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community

EnergyAustralia has an active Diversity and Inclusion program which extends to our recruitment practices. Our aim is to build an inclusive culture so that everyone can bring their whole selves to work and have a sense of belonging.

It is essential that everyone feels that they belong. Belonging is all about creating an environment where we can all feel safe, supported and valued. Creating a diverse environment at EnergyAustralia is not just about doing the right thing, it makes us a better, stronger business.

We want our employees to feel proud of the company they work for and feel energized by the opportunities they have, to grow and develop in a safe, fun and nurturing environment.

Our current focus areas in our Diversity and Inclusion program are Indigenous participation, supporting working parents and workplace flexibility, domestic violence awareness and a proactive employee-led approach to Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Intersex (LGBTI+) workplace inclusion, through our very active Prism network. The vision of Prism is Shining a light on how beautiful, diverse and multi-faceted we all are. This is achieved through:

UNITY Unite members and build an inclusive and welcoming culture
Collaborate, Share, Mentor, Inspire.
DISCOVERY Encourage a cultural shift within EnergyAustralia, where employees have a sense of pride for the company they work for and feel energized in knowing there is a platform that provides opportunities to grow and develop in a safe, fun and nurturing environment.
COMMUNITY Foster an internal community which is enabled to impact others through volunteering and external business networking opportunities.
Have Fun.

In May 2017, EnergyAustralia was awarded the 2017 Achievement Award for Most Improved at the Australian LGBTI Inclusion Awards and have been recognised as an Australian Workplace Equality Index Bronze Employer.

We are particularly proud to have over 25% of our workforce signed up as Prism members and have strong executive sponsorship through both our Managing Director and our Chief Transformation Officer.

We have recently sponsored the Move In May community event, promote regular brown bag lunches to discuss topical LGBTI+ news, have a strong education / awareness focus and have regular staff events throughout the year. Allies are encouraged to show their support for the LGBTI+ community and are given many opportunities to do so. We’re an equal opportunity employer and actively support diversity within our workplace and when we recruit.

James Robertson, Product & Propositions Leader | Customer Promise

EnergyAustralia is the first company I have worked for that made me feel comfortable enough to be ‘out’ from my very first day. As you can imagine, after working at 3 other large organisations, spanning more than 15 years, this was quite the shock! In the past, I only ever truly opened up to colleagues when I felt that we had developed a relationship beyond our roles and become friends. Being in a safe, inclusive environment that allows you to be who you are with no caveats, no disguises and no white lies makes me feel more connected to not only the organisation, but to all of my colleagues.

Jonathan Law, Specialist | Onboarding & Recovery Team

Since we launched our PRISM (our LGBTI+ workplace inclusion) network in 2015, there are now visible signs of support at every EA site I go to. Whether it’s Flinders street, Bourke street, Collins street, Yallourn, Mt Piper, Hallett, or Tallawarra, rainbow postcards are pinned up on walls, PRISM stickers are on hardhats at Energy Sites, and people are wearing rainbow lanyards everywhere to show their support.

Seeing all these visible signs around reminds me to never be afraid of being who I am. It tells me that people may not understand what I’m going through, but the people of EA stand by me, they stand with me. They’ve got my back, and you can definitely count on them. At EA, we have a focus on putting people at the heart of everything we do. We want to build genuine connections with people. I believe, genuine connections can only happen when I’m confident to show you who I am. So be you, unapologetically you, 100% you.
