GOTAFE actively promotes inclusion and celebration of LGBTIQ+ communities and was recognised as a winner in the 2019 Victorian Public Sector Pride Awards for Regional Pride Initiative of the Year. GOTAFE actively participates in the local LGBTIQ+ community, providing a space for Goulburn Valley Pride to meet and actively fundraising, sponsoring two LGBTIQ+ FLEDGE Leadership Program positions and being a Gold Sponsor of the OutintheOpen Festival.

GOTAFE has benefited from significant Executive and Board leadership in the LGBTIQ+ space. GOTAFE is lucky to have Ro Allen – Commissioner for LGBTIQ+ Communities and winner of Hero of the Year during the 2017 Australian LGBTIQ+ Awards, on the Board. Ro has already conducted multiple educational presentations to both students and staff. GOTAFE is also fortunate to have Cameron Cahill as Executive Director for Attraction and Engagement who has won the SACS Leadership and LGPro awards for work in making LGBTIQ+ inclusive workplaces for employees.

In 2020, GOTAFE was the recipient of the VTA Inclusive Training Provider of the Year Award, underlining the organisation’s commitment to providing a safe, inclusive and supportive working and learning environment for people from all walks of life.

GOTAFE is extremely proud to have permanently raised the Rainbow Flag at all campuses, a vitally important symbol for inclusion and safety for LGBTIQ+ people to express themselves on campus. GOTAFE also celebrates numerous LGBTIQ+ days of significance and runs annual educational events for both IDAHOBIT and Wear it Purple days.

Ash Beks, Marketing and Communications Officer – GOTAFE

I’m proud to work for an organisation that openly supports staff and students to be whoever they want to be. As a non-binary person, I have never had my sexuality or gender questioned, and I am encouraged by all staff to simply just “be my best self” – whatever that may be. I love being in a regional area like Shepparton and working for an organisation that outwardly expresses progressiveness and allows staff and students to be themselves. I feel like the work we do at GOTAFE directly encourages inclusivity and diversity in our wider regional community, and that’s an incredibly humbling thing to be a part of.

Damien Stevens-Todd, Trainer & Assessor, Community Service Work – GOTAFE

The ‘G’ in LGBTIQ+ could equally stand for ‘GOTAFE’! I’m super proud to work for an organisation that is deeply committed to celebrating and affirming diversity and embeds inclusion and social justice principles in all we do! From proudly flying pride flags on all our campuses, to hosting morning teas on IDAHOBIT and Wear It Purple Day, staff and students alike feel safe, supported and ‘at home’ at GOTAFE. My membership of the Department of Health and Human Service’s Working Group (LGBTIQ Taskforce) – with a focus on regional/rural communities – is supported during work time. My husband, Cris, and our delightful 3-year-old daughter, Fletcher, are ‘part of the furniture’ and water-cooler conversations. GOTAFE’s the place to be for an inclusive, rewarding career and experience. Thank you, GOTAFE!

Julie Goodall, Trainer & Assessor, Finance and Accounting – GOTAFE

What makes working at GOTAFE so awesome is the fact that my sexual orientation is not treated as different or special. From the time that I first commenced working for GOTAFE, I have been fully accepted as a person with a family and interests in the same way that every other team member has a family and interests. I am thrilled to work for such an inclusive organisation as GOTAFE.
