Shelley Abrams – LGBTI Working Group Chair(GM People & Culture)
I have worked in a number of different countries throughout my career and have thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to work with so many different cultures and backgrounds, which taught me the value of empathy and openness, something I try to bring to my role here at Medibank. In a previous role, I had a lead role in the LGBTI network and I am looking forward to bringing learnings from that experience to our network here at Medibank. I am excited to be a part of creating this network and the potential we have to create awareness and understanding about the LGBTI community!
Gemma Saunders – Head of Diversity & InclusionOrganisational Development, People & Culture
I live in Melbourne with my partner Reah and our son, Quinn and pet spoodle. I feel like I have a role to play in ensuring our workplace is inclusive and supportive of all. I feel we have a great foundation at Medibank and when we all come together, we will become better at fostering inclusion and embracing diversity. To attract the best people, we need to open up our career opportunities to appeal to talented individuals who work at their best when they bring their whole self to work.
Mike Boyd – Working Group LeadEmployer Brand Manager, People & Culture
I live in Newtown, Sydney with my partner Colin and our two kids, Jack and Maple. Previously I was working at an advertising agency managing a team who were passionate about developing creative solutions for our clients’ employee attraction and engagement programs. Now at Medibank, my sole focus is employee Engagement & Brand within Medibank. My aim is to use my experience and passion for talent engagement to drive change and ensure LGBTI employees and their families feel embraced and welcome.
Nigel Davis – Inclusion, Talent & Employee Experience Organisational Development, People & Culture
I live in Melbourne with my partner Dan and our gorgeous staffy, Zara. I have worked in Organisational Development roles for more than 10 years, and I am excited to bring my knowledge of D&I to the LGBTI Working Group, helping the group to raise the profile of LGBTI issues across Medibank, and creating a work culture where a sense of equality and heart are at the forefront of how we serve our customers.
Lori Turner – Communications LeadSenior Internal Communications Partner, People & Culture
I am excited to be able to contribute to creating a leading workplace where LGBTI employees can feel safe, supported and celebrated in their everyday lives. I love my role at Medibank as a Communications and Change Business Partner in the P&C team and I’m very proud to work for an organisation that is authentic about supporting diversity. I live in Macedon with my husband Grant and my twins, Zavier and Chloe and love the sanctuary of semi-rural living. I was very proud to be awarded Pride in Diversity’s 2017 Ally of the Year award and remain committed to supporting LGBTI equality at Medibank and within our community.
Michael Simpson – Engagement Lead (VIC)Go-to-Market Manager, Customer & Portfolio
I joined Medibank in late 2016 and work in the Marketing Strategy team, helping the broader team take their programs to market. Outside of work I am happily married to my husband, which took place in the Melbourne British Embassy in 2015. I also play water polo, enjoy keeping fit, love most sports, am obsessed with pop music and am the father of two French Bulldogs. Working for an organisation that embraces and celebrates diversity makes me incredibly proud and engaged and it is a privilege being part of the sensational LGBTI working team.
Caitlan Neeson – Engagement Lead (NSW)Employer Branding Specialist, People & Culture
In 2015, I attended the Mardi Gras parade in Sydney on behalf as Medibank as a spectator. Then in 2016, I was fortunate enough to be involved in our very own Better With A Kiss campaign, dancing and cheering my way down the parade with my colleagues, family and friends. Overwhelmed with pride, I want to continue making an overt stand on equality for all. As a member of the Passion + Pride Group, my goal is to continue making a positive change within our workplace and ensuring there is both support for and celebration of all of our people.
James McDonald – CommunicationsResolutions Manager, Customer & Portfolio
Medibank’s commitment to the LGBTI community and the existence of this group is the reason why I agreed to participate in Medibank’s inclusive tv ad in early 2016 – all when I wasn’t even an employee! Now, I live in the Melbourne suburbs with my husband and our two kids Oscar and Poppy. At Medibank, I look after the team that handles Ombudsman and other sensitive complaints, and I make sure that the resolutions we put forward to customers are fair and reasonable for all.
Sarah Geistendor – EventsRisk Methodology & Frameworks Manager, Enterprise Services
I’m born and bred in Melbourne and think there is no better coffee in the world that what we have here! When I joined Medibank in 2016 I was overwhelmed by the opportunities to engage with other employees to promote and celebrate diversity both in Medibank and in our communities. As an ally, I truly believe that we all have a role to play, regardless of our day job, to foster a safe and accepting environment for everyone to be their true self. My experiences so far have been so rewarding and most importantly fun and I can’t wait to see what is next on the horizon!
Liz Askew – Events LeadProcurement Business Partner, Technology & Operations
Originally from Sydney, I’ve been living in Melbourne with my geek husband and two cats for almost 7 years. I’ve been at Medibank for just over a year within the Procurement team and am thrilled to be a part of the LGBTI group and Pride and Passion network. I love working within an organisation who has strong diversity and inclusion values to match my own. When not working I am avid music listener and traveller and spend most weekends trying my way through the smashed avo delights that the north side has to offer.
