Director of Student Employability

I am the Director of Student Employability at The University of Queensland. I am also a Member of Senate, a Principal Fellow of AdvanceHE, and Chair of the UQ Ally Action Committee. Through these roles I work in partnership with a wide range of academics and professional staff in curricular, cocurricular, and extracurricular spaces, as well as colleagues in industry and government sectors. This complex and multidimensional situation requires a commitment to diversity, inclusion, and intersectionality, which is vital for creativity and innovation.

Student Engagement Manager, The University of Queensland Library

I joined The University of Queensland (UQ) in 2017, about 6 months after I arrived in Australia from the UK with my partner Kate. One of the first things that struck me about UQ is how beautiful the campus is, especially when the Rainbow Flag is flying over Forgan Smith – it makes me proud to come to work.

I feel comfortable being out at UQ, and I find wearing my Ally lanyard as I walk around campus makes it easier for me to connect with staff and students who are also members of the LGBTQIA+ communities. This is particularly important working in Student Engagement, because one of the aims of my role is to make Libraries safe and inclusive spaces for everyone who needs to use them (which at a University really encompasses everyone!). I also enjoy facilitating LGBTQIA+ inclusion training for UQ staff and am lucky that UQ supported me to become a Pride in Diversity Endorsed Trainer.
